Plymouth Argyle pulled off a big upset by beating Premier League Brentford away from home with a late winner. The only goal came in the 82nd minute, scored by Morgan Whittaker, who drifted in from the right and fired a low left-footed shot past the goalkeeper.
The game was largely cagey with few clear chances. Brentford had the majority of possession but failed to trouble Plymouth’s defence significantly. Fabio Carvalho had some early efforts, one of which was tipped onto a corner, but overall the hosts lacked cutting edge.
Plymouth defended resolutely and held on in the final minutes despite Brentford pushing for an equaliser. It was their first away win of the season and their first win over a top-flight side in the FA Cup since 1984.
